Gustav Klimt Inspired ~ Assignment

Who was Gustav Klimt?
Klimt was the leader of the Vienna Secession movement and was a master of symbolism. In the time of Klimt, the Austrian city of Vienna was intensely bohemian full of artistic experimentation that railed against the Victorian repression. Figurative studies were a favorite subject as well as his use of symbols of the life cycle, flowers and ever changing seasons. His artwork depictions of women became increasingly expressive of their personalities, emotions and desires

This assignment is all about PATTERN and REPETITION,
STEPS: Research the work of the artist and examine his use of design.
Explore patterns, Zentangles and Motifs
Practice in your sketchbook
Find the ideal magazine image and carefully using an exacto knife and cutting mat, cut out essential selected body parts such as face, arms, hands, legs etc.
Play with the arrangement.
Use glue stick on the back of the cut outs and place them on your black paper
Fill negative space (entire paper) using metallic pens/sharpies reminiscent of Klimt's style
Picture
Start by gathering your resources;    Magazine Image, .Glue Stick, Scissors, Exacto Knife, Cutting Mat, number 2 pencil and various metallic markers, gel pens, colored pencils and 9 x 12 Black Paper.

I started with the image and cut out the part that I will glue down. I used the exacto knife to cutout the fine details. After I glued the head and hand down on my black paper, I used my pencil to lightly sketch in my lines to create the shapes and landmarks for my pattern making.
