Art History and the Influential Artist ASSIGNMENT
To learn about influential artists throughout history and the philosophies, theories, and breakthroughs developed by these artists as well as their place in history. Create a presentation of your investigation and present to the class using Adobe Spark or other visual presenter that demonstrates your knowledge of the artist of your choice and the art movement that they are associated with.
CHOOSE YOUR ARTIST: Research books, periodicals and the Internet on source material available for the artists below. Be sure to review and determine which artist's work you are interested in and gather your ideas and research - give the viewer a sense of the historic timeline and art movement they are associated with as well as what makes them associated with that art movement and the impact they made on the world of art.
"Claim" your artist first-only one artist per student--don’t just choose because you recognize the name, choose because you connect with their work.
Use Adobe Spark to create a visual storytelling presentation about an influential or famous artist of your choice. Your presentation should cover specific aspects of their work-for instance, how did they begin working as an artist, what did they overcome/struggles/innovations or how did their work influence others within the context of the history of art movements. You must include visual examples of your artist work and submit cited sources. NOTE: Your type of choices you use in the presentation are very important! Check alignment and no distorting your images (you will be marked down dramatically!).
IN-DEPTH RESEARCH: research online periodicals and/or Internet resources about your artist and the art movement. USE MULTIPLE OF RESOURCES! Be sure to look at the artist relevance in history and how they impacted the world of art and or design-WHAT ARE THE BASIC VISUAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE ART MOVEMENT THEY ARE ASSOCIATED WITH AND HOW IS THEIR WORK DISTINGUISHED WITHIN THAT ART MOVEMENT?. Give the viewer insight on who they were and help us understand and connect with what motivated them and why they are considered influential and contributed to the art movement they are associated with.
CONSIDER: compare and contrast this artist, their style and philosophies with other of his/her time as well as those that came before. Give an overview of the time period that this artist lived in and what historical and/or social events, personal things they might of had to overcome and/or their final years that galvanized them into art history or an art movement.
Your presentation should convey a comprehensive understanding of the artist and their influence/art history and demonstrate a sense of how they would design their own visual presentation. From your multiple sources, you will create a presentation that should be compelling, SHORT and thorough. Your presentation should be engaging and have your OWN personal insight and observation of why you choose your artist
Cite your sources! EasyBib add on in Google Docs-check out: http://www.artcyclopedia.com/ http://www.visual-arts-cork.com/art-movements-glossary.htm
PRESENTATION: You will turn your presentation that will be shared in the class. https://spark.adobe.com/gallery/education/video/#examples
